Designer Inspired Maxi Dresses!

Maxi dresses aren't leaving high fashion any time soon, which is great because they're versatile, elegant and super flattering for all bodies! Yours Clothing pride themselves on their maxi dress selection every summer as we know you absolutely love them - and this summer is no exception.

But as beautiful as they are, are they actually, you know, fashionable? Well to find out once and for all, I had a look around Designer outlet website Net A Porter to see whether any high fashion labels had summer maxi dresses, and I found a few similarities:

Pretty impressive, no? It's always fantastic to know you can dress in the latest and chicest trends, no matter your size - especially when our maxis are cut specifically for fuller figures, meaning they will flatter you tremendously. And for those of you who love a bargain? Well, let's just say the most inexpensive designer dress featured is £293... You are certainly getting a fabulous deal!

Lots of love everyone, see you soon!

Golden Globes Red Carpet Fashion

Hey everyone, how are we all? Hope you’re having fun trying out the varsity trend!

For those of you who prefer glamour, the most exciting time on the showbiz calendar is definitely red carpet season, where celebrities don their best frocks and sashay down the red carpets for awards ceremonies. This year’s Golden Globes were no different, with a very muted colour palette: blacks, taupes, with splashes of emerald green and red. Here are my hits (and misses!), as well as some gorgeous red carpet ready dress from here at Yours Clothing!

It was great to see some curvier women on the red carpet – both on a smaller scale (Christina Hendricks) and on a larger one (Amber Riley). I think both of them picked perfect dresses, especially as I’m personally a sucker for ruffles and sparkles. Good work, ladies!

The celebrities who sparkled were definitely my favourite. I loved Anne Hathaway’s Armani Prive dress – which looked backless, but wasn’t! – and Angelina Jolie stunned everyone by wearing beautifully bright Atelier Versace. I also loved Sandra Bullock’s dressy bohemian look from Jenny Packham.

Ah, my eyes! As much as I love Gabourey Sidibe, this wasn’t a good look. The print just looks incredibly tacky, and far too casual for an awards ceremony. It’s a real shame, as she looks absolutely radiant – check out that beautiful smile! As for Helena Bonham Carter, I have to respect her for this, even though a lot of people hated it. Helena is being resolutely herself, and a total individual, so props to her.

If you’re after some beautifully dressy gowns in plus sizes, then look no further than Yours Clothing. Here are my top 3:

1: Black Frill One Shoulder Maxi Dress £20
2. Black Asymmetric Hem Plait Detail Mesh Dress £25
3. Black Embellished Strapless Maxi Dress £30

What do you think, peeps? Did you have any other favourite outfits from the Golden Globes? Remember you can always comment, tweet or leave a wall post on Facebook
and I’d love to chat!

Lots of love,
Lauren

How to wear a maxi Dress?

Maxi Dresses are one of this seasons must have items and a great addition to anybody’s wardrobe. These beautiful, versatile dresses fit all shapes and sizes and can be worn casually or for formal occasions. Maxi Dresses come in a range of different styles, so it is important to choose the correct dress to compliment your figure.

Here at Yours we have come up with a few tips to help get you started:

• Maxi Dresses should be well cut and should compliment your curves. Look for Maxi Dresses with halter necks or thick straps, as thin spaghetti straps can make your shoulders and upper torso look bigger.

• You can also get away with fabulous big bold prints in a way that petite girls can’t, so don't be afraid of a little print, if anything embrace it!

• If you want to slim a larger figure, then a single colour Maxi Dress is the way to go. To create a waist simple add a wide single colour belt. If your conscience about your arms, cover up with a shrug or a cropped jacket as this will help to accentuate your waist.

• To transform your Maxi Dress from casual daywear to gorgeous eveningwear then you must accessorise. A great way to accessorise a Maxi Dress is to choose one colour from the dress and accentuate it with necklaces, earrings and bracelets. Don't over do it, remember less is more!

• When it comes to footwear then wedges are ideal. They not only do they compliment the Maxi Dress the extra height allows the dress to seamlessly flow over the shoes and will help to elongate your figure.

So whether you are after a casual or more formal look, here at Yours we believe we have the right plus size Maxi Dress for you at an affordable price.

Love Maxi Dresses? Love Yours Clothing!

Maxi dresses are the hottest thing you can own in spring/summer 2010!

Whether you are a “Skinny Minnie” or if there is a little bit more of you to love, the key to wearing maxi dresses is confidence – and loads of it!

Most maxi dresses are typically cut on an empire line, meaning that the waist line for the dress is raised well above the normal waistline. It actually is cut just below the bust so that the fabric hangs freely over your stomach and hips. This type of dress can really enhance the appearance of your bust and skims over other parts of the body, creating a gorgeous curvy silhouette that others will envy.

How should you wear a maxi dress?

  • Maxi dresses can swamp girls who are a little shorter so petite lovelies should stick to more tailored styles that are a little shorter, like this cute polka dot chiffon dress that has attracted rave reviews on the Yours Clothing website.
  • Don’t wear high heels with your maxi dress, stick to flats or kitten heels otherwise you will not only make you look over dressed for the day, you’re not helping the ‘ethereal’ bohemian theme that most maxi dresses are trying to achieve. By wearing flat sandals you will look like you’re floating rather than walking!
  • Keep jewellery to a minimum of either a long pendant or a chunky bracelet if you’re wearing it during the day. Let the dress do the talking!
  • Accessorise with a large handbag to balance the outfit out
That is all there is to it! We’ve been promised a hot summer this year so keep cool with a floaty maxi dress from Yours Clothing.
